ISO 14001 certification: our commitment to the environment

In May, Wirutex obtained ISO 14001:2015 certification, a significant achievement that confirms our company’s concrete commitment to more sustainable and environmentally responsible management.

The integration of the ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment) certifications enables us to manage both areas in a coordinated, efficient and strategic manner, contributing to the continuous improvement of our overall performance.

Below, we explain what this certification means in practical terms for Wirutex.

What is ISO 14001 certification?

ISO 14001 certification is an international standard that defines the requirements for an Environmental Management System (EMS) applicable to any organisation. It attests to a company’s commitment to improving its environmental performance, reducing the impact of its operations, complying with relevant legislation, and achieving its sustainability objectives.

What ISO 14001 certification means for Wirutex

ISO 14001 certification confirms that Wirutex has brought its Environmental Management System into compliance with the required standards by implementing several significant improvements across various areas of the company.

In summary, Wirutex has established an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) to:

  • identify, manage and reduce the environmental impacts of its activities
  • meet legislative compliance obligations
  • continuously improve environmental performance

This demonstrates that Wirutex has embarked on a path aimed at meeting the needs of future generations, guiding the business towards ever greater sustainability and ensuring compliance with new requirements while addressing challenging and inspiring opportunities.

Targets set for environmental management according to ISO 14001

Based on an in-depth analysis of the current situation and potential areas for improvement, the company has defined objectives aligned with ISO 14001 principles. These targets will be periodically reviewed to assess their effectiveness and to confirm that the chosen course of action remains appropriate.

The objectives set are to:

  • promote environmental awareness among partners and stakeholders
  • optimise the use of raw materials and energy to achieve more sustainable production processes
  • meet compliance obligations through reliable data and accurate documentation
  • manage risks to safeguard workers and the wider community
  • ensure the effectiveness of the Environmental Management System through appropriate tools and competencies

Sustainable change as a foundation for our company’s future

ISO 14001 certification marks the starting point of a journey towards sustainability. To ensure lasting progress, the Environmental Management System must be continuously monitored and audited to ensure that we achieve the objectives we have set. It is a demanding process, yet essential for conscious, sustainable growth and for creating genuine, long-term value for the company, its people, and the environment.

As a demonstration of our concrete commitment to transparency, ethics and sustainability, the company has chosen to prepare its own Sustainability Report for 2024. This entirely voluntary initiative places us among the first small and medium-sized enterprises in Italy to have decided to measure and report their impact, despite not being subject to regulatory obligations. It represents a highly significant step that clearly demonstrates our determination to strengthen a responsible management model based on tangible values and continuous improvement. Prepared in accordance with the VSME (Voluntary Standard for Micro Enterprises) and the main ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria, the report provides a transparent, measurable tool for communicating results and setting ambitious objectives across environmental, social and governance areas.
